Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a caring, insightful group of 24 students who are dedicated and super excited to be back in-person learning in their classroom. Of my twenty-four students, thirteen are English Learners, ranging from Newcomer English Learners to students who are now considered Long Term English Learners, having been in the EL program for five years or over. Three of my students receive Resource Specialist Services support for English Language Developing and math skills, and two students are attending IDEC. My students are predominantly of Latino background.
My Project
My students will benefit greatly from character-building educational lessons. I am requesting sets of books that would enable my students to access stories of characters with diverse cultural backgrounds to expand their understanding of cultural diversity as well as grow and build positive character traits to make our community a place where differences are accepted and cultures are respected.
Character education is fundamental in fostering unity and teaching our students that we might be different from others but that those differences give us strength and make us who we are.
The Gratitude journals will help my students reflect introspectively and understand their thinking and actions in a positive, growth mindset way!
