My Project
While we haven't met our 2022-2023 students yet, we are familiar with the fact that every year is a new class with its own interests, strengths, personalities, wants, and needs. Some years, a lot of the kids like anime. Some years, many kids are really interested in art. Some years, they all love the same band or singer. Despite each group of students being unique and lovable in its own way, all students -- no matter what interests, strengths, or struggles they may have -- need empathy, understanding, and positive impact. We believe that after the trauma of the past few years, this is now more important than ever.
Students need to learn empathy, to learn about legacy, and to learn about positive impact.
Because of Mr. Terupt is a book that puts a check in all of the boxes. It is told from the perspective of seven kids in Mr. Terupt's class, all with their own hobbies, backgrounds, difficulties, and personalities. Each student learns a valuable lesson in walking in the shoes of someone else, and understanding what storms we each may weather in our lives. The students learn about positively impacting others, and how even the small things can make the biggest differences. Mr. Terupt's students also learn how to put aside their differences and work together for greater good.
We believe that our students deserve literature and instruction that helps to heal and teach their hearts that have endured so much already in their young lives. We believe that starting the school year with a book as impactful, moving, and entertaining as Because of Mr. Terupt can do exactly that, and can help pave the way for a year of hope, healing, and success.
