My Students
I teach at a small charter school in Altadena, California with students from incredibly diverse backgrounds.
Our students are independent learners and seek a school environment that helps them master skills through personalized projects.
The students thrive in the world as they engage in traveling their junior and senior years, visiting the world and embracing cultures other than their own.
The classroom environment is incredibly important for learning, and I work diligently to make it comfortable, inviting, and welcoming. I have done this through intentional lighting, rugs, plants and art, all donated by families. I am looking to expand this soft space into my breakout rooms, so students can enjoy reading and writing in a space that works best for them.
For this project, I would like to order a small couch, floor pillows, a couple of rugs, and a new lamp. Anything you can contribute will be appreciated by many!
My Project
The space in which students learn dictates success in so many ways. Having an inviting classroom lowers student inhibition, making themselves more vulnerable to learn and accept help from others. They are at school all day, much like we go to work, so having a successful space they feel comfortable in is integral to their lives.
By ordering these items, you will help my classroom expand its soft space.
We will have soft, optional seating for students to read and write on. They can utilize the classroom to fit their best learning needs, in a safe and comfortable setting.
I ensure that students will not only learn skills in my classroom, but also have a space that facilitates social and emotional learning.
