My Students

Have you ever met sixth graders? On the verge of becoming their own people, they are full of curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm.

As one of the top-performing charter schools in the state, our school is working daily to help our students achieve their full potential.

The students in my year-round urban charter school are 95% low income. They attend school from 8 am to 5 pm daily. The staff at our charter school works diligently within our rigorous curriculum to help education come alive!

My students struggle with issues that often fall outside the scope of understanding. From poverty to food insecurity, homelessness to incarcerated parents, they face head-on many challenges that would make adults crumble. Even with these challenges, they come to school each day trying to put their best foot forward and grow as students, in academics, and as leaders.

My Project

After a year and a half out of the classroom, my students deserve a welcoming space that is also Covid-restriction friendly. Basic materials like bulletin board fabric and borders, sheer curtains and pom-poms will make our space bright and comfortable. Innovative storage, like a pen and pencil rack, magnetic hooks and pencil pouches, and magnetic spinner wheel will help students to access needed materials, play fun games, and learn while still helping to maintain safety guidelines. A teacher chair, paper organizer, and planner will help me to be organized and bring my students the best version of me possible!

With these materials, my students will enter a classroom transformed, energized, and perfect for them.

We will be able to build community, increase academic knowledge, and reach their full potential while still being active, engaged, and safe.
