My Students
My wonderful students are part of the self contained, Emotionally Behavioral Disability (EBD) Cluster. My expectations for them supersedes those for the rest of the school and on many days, they try to rise to the occasion. They respond well to motivation, encouragement, and compassion, instead of yelling, negative comments, and suspensions. I continue to believe in them and their abilities when others have seemed to given up on them.
Most of my students are from group homes and/or live in a very high poverty area.
Some have siblings that they must get ready first and walk them to school before coming to school themselves and never make it in time for breakfast. Some families can't afford to purchase uniforms, let alone, technology. I attempt to expose them to new and different things and opportunities that they feel that only Gen Ed students receive. Lately, they have been winning the iReady Challenge for Reading and Math out of the entire school, and receiving accolades for it. That's totally new for them. Our class is being put on the map! I am strict and stern but they know that I care and want the best for them.
My Project
Being that teaching is going on virtually as well as physically, the promethean board is used often, however, the speaker is not loud enough to accommodate both groups of students. The speakers will allow for louder and clearer audio for everybody during virtual fieldtrips, announcements, and other presentations, as well as classical music during studying and some testing.
Our old microwave finally gave out and we would love a new one.
It is used to heat up food and snack items that I purchase for my students when they have special circumstances and are a little extra hungry. We also use it for incentives such as popcorn.
