Bearded Dragon for Our Classroom

Help me give my students the experience of caring for an exotic animal. Bearded Dragons make great pets but require a very specialized setup in order to thrive.

My Project

This year I am bringing my pet bearded dragon into the classroom to serve as our class pet. Ember is still a young dragon so the students will have the unique opportunity to watch him grow rapidly throughout the school year. My students are inner-city kids and many have never experienced an exotic animal such as a bearded dragon. They will have the opportunity to research their care, habitat, and history, all while learning how friendly reptiles can be!

Ember will also be part of our classroom incentive system this year.

Students will earn points by completing classwork, helping one another, and being kind. They can then redeem these points for specialized time with Ember. They will be able to have him sit on their shoulders while they work, read to him, and enjoy spending time with a pet.

Having a class pet in the room also helps create a relaxed atmosphere. He will give the students something to distract them when they are having a tough time.

The products I am requesting are imperative because I want to make sure the students see what it takes to truly take care of a pet of this caliber. Many pet stores sell reptiles such as bearded dragons and provide buyers with incorrect information about their care. Having Ember in the classroom will help spark student's interest in learning about reptile care and will teach them the importance of doing their own research rather than simply relying on a store employee to tell them what they need.
