Our students are multicultural diverse second graders in Lewiston, Maine. Our students speak up to six different languages and come from several different countries. Many of our students lack the experiences a typical second grade student participates in and enjoys, which would develop their prior knowledge and skills to apply to academic learning situations.
Our students are loving, curious, and eager to learn about the world around them.
Due to our limited resources, we cannot provide enrichment opportunities that will help increase their understanding of the world around them.
My Project
Our students will study interdependent relationships in ecosystem as pertaining to our Common Core Science and Math Standards. We will be learning how plants depend on water, sunlight and other animals to produce and grow. We will collect data, anaylize the data and create graphs by connecting our learning of plants to the Measurement and Data Common Core Statands.
Our students will benefit from experiences and lessons that will enhance their understanding and create new perspectives.
This project will enable our students to participate in the Seed to Harvest program at Pineland Farms, and this project also provides round trip transportation for this field trip.
While at the farm, students will make observations of plants , will compare the different habitats, and make conclusions about what plants need to survive. They will bring their experiences from the farm back to the classroom through an intergated math and science project..
