This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students really enjoy reading in the classroom library area. They spend more time reading when they are nestled in a cozy bean bag chair.
My students live in a high poverty area located in East Harlem, New York.
Many of them live in shelters. They are beginning readers and reading instruction is a primary goal. They enjoy listening to stories, looking at picture books and singing songs.
My Project
My library corner is decorated as a river. The students enjoy going into the library and reading or looking at books. They sit in beanbag chairs. We could really use some new beanbag chairs since our old ones are punctured. I have noticed that students spend more time reading when they are able to sit in a beanbag chair.
Reading practice is essential to become a better reader.
My students spend more time practicing their reading when they are sitting in a comfortable bean bag chair. It also makes the library more cozy and inviting.
