This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember being in school and sitting on hard chairs all day? Don't you wish you had a bean bag chair to sit in for a while?

Our school is a Title I school.

We have about 700 students and they all get the free lunch program. Our school is big and we have students from pre-K all the way to sixth grade. We have a large playground, however the students don't have a comfortable grassy area in which to play. They can play basketball, volleyball, or kickball at recess. Our classroom is on the second floor of the building. I have 22 students in my classroom. I can't make the playground comfortable for the students, so I want to make my class room more inviting and comfortable for them. Since my students are in 5th grade we do not have a rug area. I used to be a 1st grade chair and I remember how much students enjoyed getting out of their seats and sitting down on the rug. I want my students to be able to sit in comfortable chairs and read.

My Project

I would like to order 4 bean bag chairs for our classroom library. I want my students to have a comfortable place to sit in while reading. I believe these chair will motivate and encourage students to read more. A lot of them talk about video games when they talk to each other. I would like to start a book club and see students talk about books for a change! I want them to read more often because pleasure reading is essential to building their vocabulary and opening their minds to a new world. The key to my project is providing a comfortable and inviting place to encourage literacy.
