Bean Bags for Reading

My students need 12 bean bag chairs to be able to read in a comfortable safe environment.

My Students

Everyone should have the opportunity to read in the solace of their own home. Unfortunately many of my students have never been given this opportunity. Allowing them the luxury of sitting back and reading their favorite book in a bean bag chair would be like a safe haven for so many of my students.

I have the pleasure of teaching 28 wonderful first graders.

These wonderful children, who, through no fault of their own, have been dealt a rough hand at a very young age. Many move in and out of shelters and will often change schools several times before they are 8. My students, like all children, just want a place where they feel safe and loved, even if it is only for six and a half hours a day.

My Project

These bean bag chairs will make my students feel like someone just gave them the best birthday present ever! When they are able to sit back and read they are more relaxed, and as a result will want to spend more time reading and learning. These bean bags will be occupied throughout the day, either in a small group setting, students reading with their partners, or during independent reading time.

Knowing that someone out there cared enough to send them something so wonderful will probably make my students cry.

They get so excited over little things. Knowing that someone who doesn't even know them would take the time to help them improve their education will leave a lasting impression on my students. Hopefully when they get older they will be able to pay it forward to students that are dealing with the same issues that they are now.
