My students need alternate seating options to encourage engaged and focused independent reading. As a class, we discussed what seating they would be interested and bean bag chairs were their number one request!

My Students
Our school is a small neighborhood school, centrally located in the downtown area. We have just under 400 students from kindergarten through grade 5. Over 60% of the students at our school receive free or reduced lunch.
I teach a fifth grade class of 21 students who come from many different backgrounds including some with little to no access to technology or current reading materials.
One of my goals is to instill in my students a passion for reading, both for pleasure and as a tool for learning. My projects will support this goal as well as the interests of my students.
My Project
I have been working tirelessly to make sure our classroom library is full of current, high-interest books and have shared my personal love of reading with my students.
Every time I bring in new books to the classroom or give a talk on a book I recently finished reading, the excitement is contagious.
I began the new year with a goal of revamping the arrangement of our classroom library both in the way books are displayed and the area the students have to read.
These bean bag chairs would provide my students a comfortable place to get lost in their reading.
