Beach Vibes Calming Corner

Help me give my students a beach vibes calming corner for times when students need to take a break and quiet tense emotions.

My Project

My awesome predominantly neurodiverse students sometimes need to take a break when emotions are overwhelming and the pressure of their considerable challenges becomes too intense. I have dreamt of having a cozy calming corner inside my classroom where students can take some tension off by listening to soothing sounds and engaging with calming sensory tools.

You can help me make my vision of a beach themed calming corner a reality.

Inspired by the blue painted walls of my classroom, I dreamt up a calming corner where my students could imagine they're on the beach relaxing in a pillow supported beach chair, nestled in a classic style beach tent, where they can play in the sand (kinetic sand sensory bin) or watch sand and bubble movement toys, and listen to soothing ocean sounds using headphones and a sound machine. A vinyl mat would be under everything to protect the carpet and allow for easy clean up (just in case).

The plan is that students would use the calming corner for a limited time to help them relax and regulate before resuming participation in class activities. Time in the calming corner may also be used as an award for good performance.
