This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been teased for being different? I want my students to know that teasing IS bullying. I hope to discuss the effects of teasing with my students and encouraging them to accept, embrace, and celebrate our uniqueness with these materials. They each deserve a chance to feel respected!

Teaching my students to live every day as the best version of themselves is crucial.

The neighborhood they are growing up in is filled with negative influences. If I can build their self confidence and empower them to stand up for the right thing now, they will be prepared to face the peer pressure in middle school, and continue on their individual journeys toward successful futures! I teach in a Title I school, where funding was just cut again, with 96% of students qualifying for free/reduced lunch program in an urban neighborhood. My students are amazing thinkers with great potential, but they are growing up in an area of high poverty and high crime. The school we spend our days at is filled with caring teachers who put their heart and soul into creating learning experiences that guide all students to reach their fullest potential. As a teacher here, we often spend large amounts of our personal money buying materials, including books, pencils, etc. for our classrooms.

My Project

The Bullying in Schools books will enable my students to read about bullying and the harmful effects of it! The printer cartridges will refill our printer so we can design and publish anti-bullying posters to practice the persuasive strategies we've been studying in class, and spread a message of respect and kindness to all students in our school. The StoryWorks Magazines will help my students further develop their skills as writers. The mechanical pencils and erasers will take away that constant excuse, "I don't have a pencil." These pencils would stay in the classroom ensuring that ALL students have the appropriate materials to be successful! The Oxford tri-fold folders will be used to help my students get organized, as well as enhance my communication with their parents. The Targus case would protect our brand new iPad and provide us with a keyboard to type on preserving the screen while engaging in the educational adventures that await them in cyberspace.

Funding this project would forever change the lives of every student in my classroom now, as well as those students who will be joining my class in the future!
