Be the Source to Enable Our Electricity Unit and Beyond!
My students need battery holders, bulb holders and PVC pipes to construct a simple circuit! A FEW SIMPLE ITEMS will enable them to explore three separate units!
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Scharf's classroom raised $353

My Students
When the families of my sixth and seventh grade students could not afford to bring in requested materials to use for science class, my heart would break and I would run to my own resources. I have countless students with working parents, sometimes two or three jobs, that do not have the luxury of time or transportation to provide some of the materials they need to engage in constructing models, as called for in implementation of New York State NGSS.
I have 110 inquisitive middle school students, and as a second year teacher, 90% of my salary is spent on materials for students to use in class.
My students deserve the opportunity to engage in 3-Dimensional Learning!
My students LOVE to build, they love to create, and simply knowing that they can construct a model of what they are learning, motivates them to want to learn more! Knowing that they have the resources to construct something that will help others in real life inspires them to persist through productive struggle!
My Project
My students currently have no Electricity & Magnetism Unit!
A few simple materials will give this unit life in our curriculum and a few raw materials can make their engineering dreams come true!
With materials such as battery holders with wires and light bulbs and holders my students will be able to begin our electricity unit with inquiry based science, they will have opportunities to conduct electricity based investigations.
They will have the opportunity to construct not only simple circuit models, but have a solid understanding of how electricity works and the ability to build on that learning. With your help, this introduction to electricity in combination with a few simple raw materials such as PVC pipes, you will enable my sixth graders to meaningfully piece together our electricity, simple machines, and alternative energy units to engineer their own methods of harnessing renewable energy!
