Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students make up the third grade ICT class in a high poverty school in Washington Heights. Despite the fact that almost 90% of the students in my school are from low income families, my class is made up of an amazing group of children who love to learn. These children love school. They are inquisitive, creative, and very enthusiastic. They absolutely love reading, and many of them are approaching grade level and some are even reading above grade level. I can't wait to watch them grow even more this year!

My Project

These new 3rd grade students are in need of basic classroom school supplies! The students need organizational tools and supplies to continue their growth. As I have taught this grade for 4 consecutive years, I know what a 3rd grade classroom needs for great instruction and growth to take place as they make their way up from 2nd grade!

In 3rd grade, we work hard to build routines and methods that students can rely on and benefit from.

We use laminated materials to ensure the worksheets and manipulatives used during the school year last longer than usual, we use plastic folders to keep our hard work safe and secure inside our desk space, and we use the other basic classroom supplies to organize and maintain our busy learning schedules. We exclusively use teacher-made curricula materials, so we need lots of paper, markers, and tape to make and display this work. These tools and supplies will help this progress continue throughout the year and the student's academic career as we send these students off to 4th grade next year as well!
