Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Some days I drive home in silence and some days the radio is blaring. Some days I become frustrated trying to learn something new so I take a break while other days, I can fly through the tasks. I can also recognize what I need in order to remain focused and emotionally regulated. For my students, just communicating these needs and identifying emotions is something that they are still learning. While we have some tools for regulation, we could use some more.
These pillows, fidgets, and mirrors would allow my students to have tools for de-escalation, re-regulation, learning emotions, or just a much needed break.
We are currently using a mat and 2 pillows. However, our emotional dysregulation, sensory overload, coping and calming techniques look different for each of my students and what has become evident is that we would benefit from new fidgets and tools to re-regulate so they can return to learning.
