This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is made up of 24 energetic, culturally diverse Kindergartners.

They are a wonderful group of 5 and 6 year olds that enjoy hands-on, active, engaging learning. They enjoy being inside the classroom reading and writing, but look forward to their time being outside moving around, engaging in team sports, and learning responsibility, accountability and decision making. Our school is a K-5 Title One public school that is focusing on improving literacy and incorporating writing throughout our day. Our community is very close and we look forward to seeing each student grow as a learner and an active, loving member of our community.

My Project

My students love learning inside the classroom but get excited to go outside, be active and play. However, when they get to the play yard, there are a handful of balls, a few dented hula hoops, and a single play structure for all 5 Kindergarten classes. We do not have the appropriate materials to provide the students with engaging, standard based, physical education that is being mandated. With the new physical education equipment, students will be able to practice motor skills, coordination, balance, team building, social skills, and leadership while participating in fun, engaging, activities and games. Being able to have a variety of balls to kick, throw and bounce provides students with more opportunity to develop hand-eye coordination and create fun team based games. The hula hoops, bean bags, balls and cones will be used to create teacher ran stations for the students to rotate through and learn a variety of new games and skills.

Living a healthier, more active life is a movement that is spreading across the nation.

Instilling the love of learning and being active can help my students grow to enjoy exercise and continue to maintain a healthier, productive lifestyle. With the bean bags, hula hoops, and balls, my students will get to play and learn a variety of games and enjoy exercising. If they are more active outside the classroom, they will become more focused, more energized, and more productive inside as well.
