My students need Science Instant Learning Centers, iPod Boom Box, Rechargeable PA system, Read-Alongs, and Mold and Play Sand to improve science, and listening skills.
My kindergarten students are imaginative, hopeful, and full of laughter. There is no typical day in kindergarten as each day is full of wonder from insects to careers. My students love science, role playing, and singing. They are full of energy and I hope to fan that flame of wonder in each student.
My students are a mixed demographic of people in a diverse socioeconomic group from poverty to middle class.
Our school is over 50 years old and has a strong sense of history and family. Many of my student's parents are also alumni from our humble elementary school and there is a strong sense of preservation and community. My school does not have the current resources as it is antiquated in its technical resources due to its age. All of the kindergarten teachers at my school share rooms with other teachers, and are at times filled with 50 kindergarten students and 2 teachers to facilitate and serve. Even with the challenges of an old school in a modern world we are definitely "survivors" serving our community to the best of our ability and sustaining the deep roots of education.
My Project
Through a plethora of books on CD, listening station, and CD/iPod player my students will be able to improve their reading comprehension, story telling skills, understanding an author's point of view, and role play a diverse amount of literature. The PA system will benefit my students as the will complete a public presentation after researching, role playing, and interviewing different community members and their careers. My students will learn the importance of careers and community. My students will also get to role play careers such as paleontologists, doctors, authors, musicians, etc. The science centers and math manipulatives will bring learning to life through a hands-on approach that students can develop through their five senses. The resources will be used daily, in center activities, small groups, and whole group presentations.
My students will benefit greatly from the donations as they will be able to listen to colorful stories, use hands on science and math tools, and grow as learners through nonfiction text that corresponds with our Common Core curriculum.
They will be able to present their findings through public speaking and use tools that value their learning and progress.
