My Students
We are teaching students in an amazing world that demands to be seen. Life is happening before our eyes at every moment of the day, but how do we capture it? How do our students see the details in the ordinary? Technology has made capturing the images of nature and the world around us a possibility.
I am a high school Biology and Chemistry teacher from a large urban fringe school district where many of my students, due to the economy, are struggling at home and at school.
These hardships allow them limited opportunities to explore and discover the world around them. For many of my students, the opportunity to photograph and see life in a whole new way would be a nice change-of-pace from the many other distractions in their lives.
Our school has a large percentage of students on free or reduced lunch and often, funds are short at home as well as in the classroom. I want to be able to give my students the world, but I only have the resources to give them a slice of it. This is where you come in! I believe that bringing science and technology into our classrooms is a vital part of helping our students succeed. It allows a new window into a wonderful, mysterious and ever-changing world. Your donations will help us achieve this by purchasing a GoPro HERO3+ camera and accessories.
My Project
I feel that we need to create opportunities for our students to discover, critically think and explore the unknown. I want to help them find the missing link that makes them appreciate what makes life tick and create a spark, igniting a love for science.
In order to prepare my students, I want to challenge them to look at the world in a different light...plunging our camera underwater, elevating it into trees, or even bringing it down into the burrows of animals in the field. Whatever we do, we will be able to look at life in a whole new way. However, in order to experience these opportunities, the proper equipment is needed. I want to be able to give my students the world, but without the supplies, my students' experiences will not be the same. In order to light my students' fire of interest in science and capture teachable moments, it needs to start here in my classroom with a GoPro HERO3+ camera.

Through equipment bought with your help, my students may become inspired to set forth and discover the next great scientific achievement.
