This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Acting it out can help a story to be told, or stimulate a writing prompt. A digital camera can be just the vehicle to make that happen.
I teach 3rd grade students at an arts focused charter school in a depressed economic area in Northern California.
My children love to be in the spotlight and respond positively to having the attention on them. Letting a child be a "ham", "star", or a "diva" gets them really excited to be engaged in their learning.
My Project
I am asking for a digital camera so that students can use it to document their school experiences and then have a photo record of it. Later we can use the pictures taken to stimulate the children to write personal narratives of their third grade year. At the end of the year I would like to take their pictures and stories to make a class yearbook.
The digital camera will allow my students to feel important and have a moment to shine and be the "Star" of their own story, motivating them to enjoy school, be an engaged learner and a life long writer.
