Battle Worthy Books

My students need 1-2 copies each of 13 Sunshine State award winning books to read and prepare for our Battle of the Books school competition.

My Students

Books flying off library shelves sounds like a great idea, but not when students are preparing to go to "Battle." Even with a limit of one "Battle Book" a.k.a. Sunshine State Reader per checkout, it is a challenge for my students to get their hands on one.

Ravishing Readers is an understatement to describe my students.

My classroom library is constantly being visited to check out new books. Some students are close to making their quarterly goal and we've only just begun. They are very excited to participate in the Battle of the Books competition held only for 4th grade.

My Project

Having read 5 of the "Battle Books" over summer, I know what great literature they will be exposed to. This competition is great because it encourages kids to read high quality material. To encourage discussion of books, we hold "Battle Luncheons" where students can come eat lunch with the teacher and talk about the books read. The ones I have purchased over summer flew off my shelf the first day of class. I would like to have more copies available to students to check out and then join us for lunch.

Your donation toward this project will enable more students to enjoy award winning books and in turn, recommend them to other students.

Not only will students this year benefit, but my future students will also by having these books a permanent part of my class library. Reading is contagious!
