Battle Worthy Books Part 2

My Students

Do you remember getting excited about it FINALLY being your turn to go the library to check out new books? Well my students are that way, except with so many kids wanting to read the same books, they often come back empty handed because there are no copies of the book they want.

My students love to read.

In fact, during teacher PE, that's what many of them choose to do. In 4th grade there is a special reading competition that tests students' recall of details and authors' names from 15 selected Sunshine State Readers. With 150+ students in our grade, there is a lot of competition just to get the books in their hands to read.

My Project

I was so fortunate to receive copies of the Battle Books for my class last year through generous donors on Donors Choose. My students were very grateful that they had copies of the books in their room to check out and didn't have to hope that the library had a copy to check out. There was actually a wait in my room for some of the books. I was excited to see even some of my reluctant readers venture over to check out a few books throughout the year. The books also help the students improve their comprehension and meet their quarterly reading goals.

My students need copies of the 15 selected Sunshine State Readers to prepare for our school and county Battle of the Books competition.

Receiving these books will not only make a difference with my students but with future classes that I have and other teachers on my team. I will add the books to my regular library and give the duplicates to students to take home and newer teachers on my team that are still building up their classroom library.
