Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in one of the most diverse zip codes in the country and my students come from many different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. My classroom is a place where students from diverse backgrounds are able to come together, build community and share their experiences. Our school focuses on building a community of learners and supporting children to develop socially and emotionally, as well as academically.

Our students thrive in spaces that provide all necessary learning materials, from pencils to Expo markers, these tools become magic once in the hands of students- It allows them a way to express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions throughout the year.

We need supplies for students so they can channel their inner author or artist!

My Project

The barriers to learning continue to grow in our community, this project will provide supplies in the classroom for daily use to alleviate stress of not having a pencil. I want my students to walk in our learning space knowing all the tools they need are ready for them to start using.

Dull pencils and dry expo markers devour precious minutes that we can spend expressing our ideas or trying out a new problem.

Colorful Expo markers allow us to color code our thinking in math or underline key ideas when reading a tough text. Erasers and sharpeners will allow us to keep our materials in working condition and will last us the school year.

Headphone splitters will be used in literacy small groups to encourage wild readers through audio books and educational podcasts so we can explore non-fiction resources in new ways.
