Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a Battle of the Books coach at my local middle school. Our school/team is 5 years undefeated! Battle of the Books is a year-long extracurricular. It involves attending weekly practices (book discussions and competition prep), reading a list of 28 books (selected by a national board and our county education office), and competing in a county-wide reading comprehension contest (game show style) against other middle schools. Each year, I do my best to incentivize our students that choose to participate on this team in their free time, especially as the prizes given by the county can be a bit of a letdown (e.g. a poster or a sticker).
Please help me show these kids that they are doing something awesome!
They might not be on a sports team, but they are a part of A team (an awesome UNDEFEATED team) with a worthy mission: The Love of Reading! I like to do a raffle prize each week for any kids that finish a book. These items would be prizes for the weekly raffle. This year, I would like to add a grand prize for the MVP of our team (the first to 28 books read), which is why I included the Kindle.
