Our middle school is a place where students are encouraged to take part in all kinds of activities including sports and clubs. Many of my students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and face many challenges, such as having low reading skills and anxiety when working with others. This book club allows students the chance to participate in a friendly group setting while also reading high-interest books. They need encouragement and a variety of strategies to help improve their reading skills. One strategy is participating in a Battle of the Books competition against other middle schoolers in the district.
These books will allow my students the ability to read a variety of books, such as the graphic novel, A First Time for Everything, while participating in our district Battle of the Books.
With dwindling budgets, our students are in need of seeing diverse perspectives in books while also engaging in a book competition.
This wish list of books, which includes Refugee by Alan Gratz and The Lost Year by Margaret Marsh, will provide my students the opportunity to step into the shoes of another. My students want to read, and this collection will help my students stay focused and motivated to read while taking part in the book competition.
