Battle of the Books: Book Club and Competition

My Students

My middle school students are kind, inquisitive, and welcoming.The school library and innovation lab supports all 1200 students in the school. We work hard to provide books, technology, and innovation materials for our students. They get excited about new books and, while thankful for access to e-books, are enthusiastic about print books in particular!

My Project

This was my first year at a new school and we were able to start back up a Battle of the Books team virtually! Our students are participating in Zoom battles against other schools and it is, in their words, "nerve-wracking but so fun!" My co-coach and I have been excited to see how the online battles have really helped our students bond even more as a team. Even if they don't know an answer, they always end up talking about books and making recommendations to each other as they discuss possible answers.

Students have said Battle of the Books is something they are excited to participate in again next year and that they are ready to get started!

Next year's book list has been released and students are excited to start reading once this year's competition closes out this month. Now we just need the books that are on that list!
