Bath Mats for Kindergarten

My students need bath mats to lay on when working. These will also help them with their personal space.

My Students

I have the most amazing and wonderful Kindergartners. My students come from very low income families. Many of my students live in government housing and the only meals they have are the free breakfast and lunch they receive at school. Many of my students come to school in dirty clothes, clothes that don't fit, or what they wore the day before.

My students come to school every day excited to learn reading and math.

My Kindergarten students would like bath mats to work on instead of having tables in our classroom. These will allow students to be more flexible in where they sit, but also help them with their personal space.

My Project

I am asking for 30 bath mats for my class. I will use them this year and many years to come. With our class sizes growing because of budget cuts, I will not have room for all the kids at a table. Right now I have three tables that can sit 18 students. Then I have other students seated at desks or at center tables around the room. I give my students the option of moving around the room and several of them enjoy grabbing a clipboard and laying on the floor to work. I have read about several teachers who have moved their tables into storage and use bath mats and clipboards instead. Each student grabs a bath mat to sit or lay on to do their work. The students have more freedom on where they want to work. This helps their learning, but also helps the kids with personal space.

I believe these bath mats will help my students' learning by allowing them more freedom on where they work.

The bath mats will also allow my students to learn and work and not force them to be at a table. With the growing number of students teachers have in their classroom, these bath mats will allow me to move my tables out of my room and give my students more space to learn while teaching my students about personal space.
