it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a middle school special education teacher in New York City, who works with students with behavioral and emotional disturbances. We are located in the Upper Eastside servicing students from Harlem, the Lower Eastside, and the Bronx. Each student receives individualized services designed to help them with their behavioral and emotional disturbances. These services help to foster recovery and successful functioning in the home, school, and community.
At the core of their disabilities is the fact that they come from struggling socio-economic conditions.
Therefore, it is no wonder they behave the way they do but also why they look forward to participating in competitive sports against peers, and in some cases, even teachers. They have a special interest in all sports especially basketball, since it requires very little in terms of equipment. These kids bring their heart and their love for the game, which is one of the reasons why I have dedicated my career to creating opportunities, with each interaction, that allow them to forget that their lives are as complex as they truly are. Just for today, I want to be available as their teacher and coach, doing together what we love and look good doing it.
My Project
Please donate basketballs and a rack to help us develop our school basketball team, which is at its infancy stage. The basketballs requested are official size and of superior quality, which differs greatly from what are currently using at our school. The rack will help us organize this equipment and teach proper organization to our young athletes. Altogether we will use your donations to help develop students’ self-esteem and confidence since they will become a part of a something that acts and looks like a respectable basketball team. My prayer is that our youngsters will improve as players and students because they will acknowledge being part of something respectable, having high quality equipment to use and care after.
