This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all over the beautiful city of Oakland, though some students may travel from as far as San Jose and Vallejo in order to take advantage of the opportunities our innovative high school provides. We are all going to be working together to come back to in-person school as this pandemic rages on.

My students are a diverse group of learners who are capable mathematicians, engaged readers and writers, budding scientists, and future medical professionals who love learning.

Skill levels are quite varied in my classroom. Our population is mostly students of color, a large percentage of whom are English language learners and students with special needs. More than 91% of students qualify for free lunch. Every day, I provide a social-emotional curriculum that meets them where they are cognitively and emotionally, so that they can engage in the rigor and challenges of our school's academic curriculum. Students at our school engage in internships that allow them to pursue their passions and gain real-world skills. I work tirelessly to make their goals a reality by addressing the whole child and their diverse needs.

My Project

Basketball is an exciting sport requiring teamwork, coordination, and athleticism. Basketball is a truly American sport that kids love to learn how to play, while nurturing dreams of being in the NBA. To stay competitive, I need to make sure my team is equipped properly. Expenses include equipment, team apparel, and court-time.

When It comes to playing basketball, it isn't an easy or cheap sport to play.

It can often take time to develop basketball skills. It challenges the mind and most often results in a satisfying experience. The basketballs that I'm requesting will develop my players' ability to learn the fundamental skills, as well as the advance skills for playing. While practicing and playing, my players will use the knee pads to prevent knee injuries, when playing defensive plays.
