This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fourth-grade tinkerers are part of an amazing school in Brooklyn, New York. Our thriving community has big hopes and dreams, but our students don’t always have access to essential learning materials. Some of them face additional challenges, as they are second language learners. In spite of these roadblocks, my students are enthusiastic scholars with boundless curiosity and creativity! Their zest for exploring and learning continually renews my own passion for learning and reminds me why I love my job.
My Project
The materials from this project will allow me to create a cozy and comfortable environment for my students. For many of my students, my classroom is their first schooling experience and it can be difficult for them to adjust.
Creating a classroom which feels similar to their homes will ease their transition and any separation anxiety they feel.
The various greenery will be displayed around the classroom accenting students' work and creating that homey feel. The baskets will hold the materials in the classroom, and the wooden trays will be used for serving breakfast and lunch. The photo display will allow my students to hang photos of their families as one of the methods for fostering the home school connection.
