Help me give my students basic supplies to enhance their learning. We use headphones for online programs daily! Items get broken and need to be replaced. Headphones let students read and do math privately with disrupting others.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students came to grade 5 well below grade level in reading and math. Based on testing at the start of the year, 4% were reading and learning math on grade level. More that 60 percent of students are English learners, qualify for special educations services or 504 protections.
What I see is a group of beautiful children with bright smiles and a clear eagerness to excel.
When students are so far behind meeting grade level standards, we need to move all obstacles to learning out of their way. I have to put in the effort to make sure limited district and school budgets do not take away from student learning. My students deserve a world class education.
With COVID, a lot of my personal spending has been to keep students safe. We need do replenish supplies as we build for academic and social success. Students need supplies to support and accelerate learning without regard to family income.
My Project
We use online programs daily to differentiate learning for students. This allows students to learn at their own pace and make more progress. Items like headphones make online learning happen. Each student goes at his/her pace and no noise travels to disturb others.
Dry erase boards and markers are a must in math!
These don't just reduce the amount of paper we use, they allow me to check in on each student's learning multiple times per lesson.
U.S. history, distinct voices, and surviving challenges are themes in grade 5. Two books help bridge these themes.
