This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a Title I school. Most of our students are from low-income families which is reflected by our 89% free or reduced-price lunch status.

The community is made up primarily of Spanish-speaking families.

This is apparent with our 83% Hispanic demographic. The majority of our kids are English language learners. Although many face socioeconomic challenges, they come to school every day willing to learn.

Who are my students? Well, that’s a question I typically answer with “every child I’ve had the pleasure of making an academic impact on.” There are 23 curious and talented first grade students in my class, and I live in a tight community where when I stop by the market down the street, I will most likely bump into a family I know.

Most of the children come from immigrant families who value education greatly. Most are from households which have two hardworking parents who do their best to provide the best quality of life for their children. I have been blessed with the opportunity to give their child the best education I possibly can, and I have no intentions of giving anything less.

My Project

This year has been far from normal for our students and teachers. I began the year as a third grade teacher, and now I will be making my way to first grade e-learning after unit adjustments based on student enrollment.

Our first graders began their year learning through a computer which is not ideal.

They will be back on campus in January, and they will face overcrowding when it should be the opposite. I have the opportunity to bring a sense of normalcy to a group of first graders and need your help in getting some basic materials to make this happen. Our students have been through so much and need a sense of normalcy.

We are in need of a chart paper, composition books, pencils, a calendar, markers, computer paper, and learning materials from Teachers Pay Teachers. These materials will help us get started on the right foot. Thank you for your support of our project.
