This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Special education can be challenging but extremely rewarding, mainly if you teach in the Bronx. My students come from a predominately low-income area and come from single-family households. Ninety-nine percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunches based on their socio-economic backgrounds, and twenty-five percent of those students are special needs. My students face many problems in our neighborhood, such as a lack of proper funding for books and other essential needs, growing up in a high crime, high poverty neighborhood, and a culture that doesn't emphasize a vital education.
My students are highly energized and visual learners.
They love working on computers and using technology. In our school, we push our students to become job and college-ready. Throughout the year, we explore how to write resumes, balance checkbooks, plan a dinner party, use Microsoft Office, use Google Drive, and design a house/room/zoo. This way, my students are ready for the real world at a young age.
My Project
Our classroom desperately needs supplies. We are running out quickly on basic essentials. We need a kid-friendly case for our new iPad. This case will help keep our iPad safe and secure. In order to do this, we need a case that will protect it from breaking. We also need markers to write on our dry erase board. Our markers are now dried up and they do not write properly. Lastly, we need poster paper to work on projects and to create anchor charts for the classroom. We are running low on these supplies and would greatly appreciate your help.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
