Basic Needs vs. Budget Cuts

My students need many basic classroom maintenance items that can keep us moving along. We need an HP LaserJet Maintenance Kit, duct tape, pencils and pens.

My Students

My students attend a public elementary school on the west side of Chicago where 100% of our students come from low income households. All my students are excited about learning, from the moment they walk in the door, until the moment they put their homework in their backpack in the afternoon. We take advantages of many different learning styles throughout the day to keep all kids engaged.

Our students have been recently affected by budget cuts that have been district wide.

My Project

Since CPS announced budget cuts this week, our school has lost over $96,000 we previously had for this year. We no longer have money for basic supplies like pencils, tape, or even maintenance for our copy machine. Four teachers use our copy machine daily to create worksheets, interactive activities and homework for our students. The machine recently stopped working because it requires maintenance, and CPS will not cover the costs. We are only half-way through the school year, and without this maintenance, our students will be missing out on a lot of important activities and learning. We'd love to continue without a hiccup in our learning, and so what's best for our students.
