This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My literacy classroom has a care closet to provide students with the basic needs they are missing. My teaching philosophy has always centered around ensuring basic needs are met first. Once these needs are met, then students can focus on learning. That's where the care closet comes in. This is stocked with anything a student would need to ensure they are not worried about basic needs items.
Keeping our care closet stocked has become a struggle this year since we are a Title I school.
My most requested items are deodorant (which I am completely out of) and snacks, snacks, snacks.
When a student is hungry, they aren't focused on learning. I try to always have crackers or a granola bar for students who missed breakfast, lunch, or just need a snack. My goal is to feed their brains both academically and nutritiously. Thank you for supporting all our needs!
