This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from all walks of life and almost all of them are in the minority according to the world. However, they are their own majority and many have the drive to succeed. Our school is a community and generational school with strong ties to the community and churches. Our neighborhood is considered suburban geographically, but is very similar to the urban city to which it is attached. Our school is a work in progress and strives to keep up with the advancements of the world.
My Project
My students come from all walks of life and many of them lack the consistent access to basic self-care needs such as deodorant and band aids. Regardless of the income level of the kids' households, many come from larger families and families that are split between households. My main goal is to provide a sense of comfort for them that they wouldn't ordinarily get outside of the classroom.
Providing self-care items for kids will help boost their self-esteem and will hopefully lessen the stress that they feel everyday worrying about how they will feel or how they will acquire their personal hygiene items.
