My Students
Hello! I'm a 5th grade English and Language Arts teacher with a wide variety of students. I have English language learners, English as a second language, and special education students all included in my group of 45 students (two different classes).
My school is also a Title I school, meaning that most students receive free or reduced price lunch.
Within that dynamic, Hurricane Harvey hit our school community hard, and many families are still picking up the pieces (and will be for awhile).
My Project
In my classroom, our most important resource is the students' journals. This is where we write our notes, draft our writing, and show all of what we have learned. Glue sticks will help us consolidate separate worksheets into our hand written work. Also, scissors, kleenex, expo markers (for their white boards), and lysol wipes are basic classrooms supplies to keep our environment clean and ready for each day.
If my students can create, they truly understand a concept.
For this reason, I focus on creation in my classroom. I allow my students to show me and their classmates what they know in various forms throughout the year. Our printer will be used to print and scan for classroom projects.
