My students need basic school supplies to use every day to enhance their learning experience.

My Students
Our middle school, a high-poverty middle school in southeast Charlotte, is one of the district’s most visible schools. As it grapples with poverty, diversity and academic achievement, the school has built a strong partnership with a local church, developed an award-winning robotics program and recently added a science and engineering magnet program. Though its test scores remain low, many cite the school as an example of creative approaches to entice middle-class families back to neighborhood schools.
My students bring me the best they have every single day, and I want to give them the very best as well.
Thank you for your support. When we all work together, our kids benefit!
My Project
Thank you for supporting my class and my students. They will be able to use these basic classroom supplies every day. Many students are able to bring their own supplies to class, funded by their family. My students come from homes where money is tight and school supplies are just not in the budget. Paper, pens, and markers are all items that my students need daily.
When the supplies are in the classroom and students don't have to be embarrassed about not having paper, pens, and markers, it creates a better learning environment where kids feel they can succeed despite their background.
Specifically, my kids will use the dry erase markers to write directly on their desks, as we explore hands-on learning with manipulatives. For example, using tiles, students will be able to concretely see how to combine like terms to create an algebra sentence. The paper will be used for daily math practice. We use blue pens in the classroom to check and correct our work. Name tents will be used for our differentiated instruction, allowing students to move in and out of stations with clarity. The sanitation wipes are used daily to get rid of germs and make sure we have a clean learning environment. Thank you for helping to support me and my students!
