Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school. Many students get free or reduced-price lunch. The majority of students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and may only get the two meals a day they receive at the high school. The majority are also English Language Learners. My students are filled with personality and many have experienced hardship no sixteen-year-old should have experienced. Unfortunately, my students can barely bring in the basics they need to be a prepared learner in class (paper, pencil). But what they do bring is enthusiasm, positive attitude, and imagination. Our campus has a strong sense of community, we really are a family. We even have a supper program where students can eat dinner after school for free.

My Project

We are into the second semester and I am running low on some basic school supplies. My biology students use our dry erase boards once a week for think, pair, share activities and during class discussions. We are getting to the last few dry erase pens and need new ones. Any time lessons require paper for foldables, notes, or readings students and myself both need access to white and pastel paper depending on the assignment

This year, we have been striving to implement Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports strategies with a reward system in place.

Students love stickers so they would like to have those throughout the year as an intrinsic reward for all their hard work. Even though my students are teens they still get excited to have a sticker. Some of my students like to use note cards to review key concepts and vocabulary.

They might now have access to note cards at home and would also need this in the classroom to reinforce content. Your donation to this project will help ensure that classes continue to run smoothly throughout the remainder of the year. Thank you so much!
