Basic Classroom Supplies for an Exceptional School Year

My Students
Our school serves students from transitional kindergarten through 5th grade. The student body includes about 450 students altogether. The student body is widely diverse and 55% of students come from low-income families. Our school is a Title l school.
My fifth grade class includes 26 fabulous learners.
Our classroom setting includes students with different interests, experiences, learning styles and needs.
We strive to create a comfortable school environment in which students look forward to coming each day to develop their academic and social skills.
My Project
I am requesting classroom mailboxes for students to keep their handouts and homework assignments. This will help make sure we remain organized and accountable for our materials throughout the school day. The chart paper will allow students to work in small groups to show their work. This will facilitate gallery walks and whole class shares. This resource will be particularly helpful as students take the lead in their own learning and are challenged to show their work and teach each other.
This project includes easily identifiable academic items as well as a couple to promote comfort within the classroom environment.
Though the chart paper and markers may seem like small requests, they will help establish a level of comfort and consistency within the classroom. Chart paper will be used to showcase teaching points and big ideas across content areas. The markers will be will be added to the writing center and students will be able to access them to complete various projects throughout the year. These resources will add a level of comfort as students engage in rich learning experiences throughout the day.
