My students need materials to be able to work on laboratory experiments with glassware, wash bottles, pipets, and Kimwipes.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The majority of my students are English language learners and come from immigrant families. They are from an economically disadvantaged area in Los Angeles County. Due to their economic hardships, many of them have to work and fulfill other responsibilities at home in order to help their families.
Nonetheless, they are eager learners who work hard to be leaders in their community.
They aim to be the first in their families to go to college and graduate despite their hardships.
My Project
Because my students are in the mindset of working towards graduating from college, I want to better prepare them for it. As a chemistry teacher, I want to present opportunities for my students to learn from experience.
Through chemistry experiments, my students will have the opportunity to critically think about the scientific data they see from laboratory experiments and apply the lessons to their world.
The resources I am requesting, such as glassware, wash bottles, pipets, and Kimwipes, are all the basics for the laboratory experiments we will be conducting this year.
Some of these experiments include turning copper into silver and testing reaction rates of different compounds. This past year, I did not have enough of these items, and I hope it will not happen for the upcoming school year.
Through these labs, the students will be able to learn soft skills such as communication, inquiry, and collaboration. I also want to encourage them to learn laboratory skills so that they hopefully would be interested in pursuing a STEM career.
