This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.

In our present situation of teaching with a hybrid model, all of my students are working on their laptops. This is challenging for everyone and has changed our way of learning. We have started an after school club with a small group of students who are able to participate in hands-on activities.

My Project

As we look forward to our students returning to the building we also have to plan on alternatives that may happen. While we are starting in the classroom there is a possibility that we will revisit students working from home or the hybrid model.

It is important to prepare for all options to ensure that students are able to learn about artist and express themselves creatively.

The items I have chosen are basic resources we use during the year in the classroom which can also be sent home. The art experience is an important part of the day when students can free their minds, relax, and be creative.
