Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students come from all over the world and attend MHS. So to be able to provide them with an opportunity worthy of their transition through the beautiful game of baseball is very important to us. Most of our students come from Iraq, Iran, Malaysia and Puerto Rico, where they have not been able to dream and enjoy being a teenager because they've been learning how to survive everyday life.
The school is in an area which is made up of families from all over the world seeking a better opportunity to build, grow and develop in a way that wasn't possible in their hometown.
MHS is, and has been, a staple in this community since 1959 and has given many students and families an opportunity to be a part of "Something Special". This is something we continue to strive towards with each school year, especially through sports.
My Project
Many of our students come from all over the world and unfortunately live in low income households. I would love to give them an opportunity to practice and have equipment like the Elite high school programs have. For some of these kids, this is all they have. However, if we as a community can give them an opportunity to compete and practice with great equipment, not only will they become better but they will have pride in playing the game. The school is in need of new catchers gear to keep our players protected. A pitching machine to help our kids during practice. We had kids come join the team and did not have money to purchase a glove. All these little things count to help our program.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
