My Students
My school is located in the southwestern part of Houston and serves kids from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school and a community in the truest sense of the word. We work very closely with our kids and their families to put them on the path to success. We are a diverse place in many ways and I am very fortunate to teach such a wonderful group of kids.
I have been incredibly fortunate to get support for projects in the past and the resources your generosity has purchased has helped my students use their imagination and go everywhere from Mount Olympus to Manassas, Virginia, but now I am seeking your help for the after school sports team I coach.
My Project
Baseball will be back - we do not know when exactly, but you better believe we have some boys who are ready to get out and play sports safely. Our school's program is on the way up - our play, our coaching, and our equipment have all gotten better after a few years.
I am starting another project now because of an incredible 3:1 matching offer from the Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation; this match can help us add a major piece of equipment: "the protective "L" screen".
You have probably seen the L screen before in home run derbies on TV or when players do batting practice. It protects a pitcher during hitting drills and it is extremely useful. Players who don't have great control can help lob balls from closer distances during practice without sacrificing safety. It can also help when coach's arm starts to get tired. Medicine balls can help our guys develop good technique with their hips and core strength.
