This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are wonderful bilingual students in a Two-Way Dual Immersion class. Some of them are English language learners and others are Spanish language learners. They have an intense love of learning, especially in the areas of Math and Science. They love solving problems and coming up with theories about why things are the way that they are. Critical thinking definitely is a must in my classroom.

The great thing about science is that it has so many cognates for both our English and Spanish learners to access and build vocabulary.

Time and time again, our students are most engaged with hands-on learning methods. We can definitely teach out of a Science textbook, but it is much more meaningful for my students to experience the science that they are learning.

We also have trouble finding science resources in Spanish. The Teachers Pay Teachers websites have tons of Spanish Science resources, but can add up when paying for the lessons in Spanish. A gift card to access these lessons will allow me to get the most out of Science lessons in Spanish.
