Barrier Free Education

My students need medical supplies including lice spray killer and lice combs to eradicate the barriers associated with lice infestation to receiving an education.

My Students

My students are in the special education program. They come from low income housing, with a free and reduced price lunch rate of over 90%. Our students are hard workers, trying to overcome the situations that they find themselves in. Many students do not know where they are going to sleep at night, if there will be dinner or not that night, or if they will be going home with a parent or someone who says that they are their parents' friend.

Students in my classroom come in knowing that no matter their background, or what they go home to at night, they are safe here.

I will care for them, love them, and teach them. Our school has the philosophy that we are uplifting the students who need it the most. They are wonderful, hardworking, kind individuals, who deserve all of the respect and love that we can give them.

My Project

My students often face the condition of homelessness. Through no fault of their own, my students will find themselves in living situations, such as shelters or multiple families in a single family home, that lend themselves to lice infestation. This condition has costly fixes and often are not dealt with completely due to financial strain. This leads to reinfestation, which causes the student to be in a downward spiral of delousing and all of the social ramifications of this.

This should not be a barrier to receiving an education!

My students deserve to have this medical need met. As an educator, I feel it is my duty to eliminate as much of this barrier as possible. By providing lice combs and lice killing spray, my students will be able to deal with the problem once, rather than having multiple reoccurrences of it. This will lead to higher attendance rates and higher achievement!
