Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I will be starting my fourth year teaching at this tremendous school. When I started, the school was transitioning from a traditional middle school to an arts academy. I teach instrumental music. Currently, I teach four bands and two orchestras.
We are a public school that is 4th through 8th grade.
Students are focused and driven to excel in the arts as well as academics. Students begin their journey at an early age and develop their passion for the arts as they progress through the program.
My Project
We need a baritone saxophone mouthpiece, ligature and reeds to make their band sound fantastic! The bari sax is the backbone of any Jazz Band saxophone section. The instrument is unique because of it's size and ability to produce low tones. For this reason, the bari sax often doubles with other bass voices within the ensemble such as the upright bass or bass trombone.
This project is a great starter kit for a beginning bari sax player.
It will help boost confidence because the student will be able to produce a good tone quality with minimal effort. Once the student has learned to produce a good tone on this mouthpiece, ligature and reeds, they will be ready to move on to more of a "jazz" mouthpiece if they desire.
