Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Children in elementary school are highly responsive to positive rewards and incentives, which can play a crucial role in shaping their behavior and work habits. At this developmental stage, children are still learning self-discipline and the value of effort, and immediate, tangible reinforcement helps them make the connection between their actions and outcomes. When students receive praise, stickers, small toys, or other rewards for positive behavior or academic effort, they are more likely to repeat those behaviors. These incentives serve not only as motivation but also as a form of recognition that builds confidence and encourages a growth mindset.
Positive rewards create a classroom environment where students feel seen, valued, and excited to participate.
The students in the class would love to have Barbie dolls. These dolls would be a perfect incentive to have in our prize box. The majority of my students do not have toys like this at home and Barbies are a highly sought after reward in our classroom. The use of positive reinforcement fosters cooperation, focus, and a sense of achievement. It teaches students that good choices and hard work lead to positive results, which sets the foundation for responsible decision-making as they grow older. By consistently using incentives to highlight good behavior and strong work ethic, I can cultivate a supportive atmosphere that inspires children to strive for success both academically and socially.
