My Project
These Barbies will be used along with rubber bands to create a linear regression model. Students will then use their model to make predictions regarding how many rubber bands must be attached to Barbie (like a bungee) to keep her safe when she is dropped from various heights. Afterwards, students will extrapolate and drop barbies from the second floor of the school to display why predictions made outside the range of the original explanatory values are not reliable.
Students enjoy the hands on projects that I assign.
I would love for them to be able to experience this project.
This project will help them to grasp the concepts of creating a linear model for data that they gather, using that model to make predictions, interpretation of the slope and y-intercept of their model, and the problems that can occur with extrapolation.
