This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are wonderful students who really enjoy having the opportunity to play music. Being in South Phoenix, a very low income area, my students really escape into the music and can really relate to it. Over 99% of the population in my school is on free or reduced-price lunch, so to have something given to them as a gift would be more than appreciated.

One thing I've noticed about my students is that they are very creative.

They love to create whether it is a silly handshake at the beginning of the class to greet them or it is drawing and creating art. I have never seen a group of students that is more willing to express themselves creatively through movement and music.

My Project

This year I have been tasked with creating a band from scratch. When I came to this school there were absolutely no music stands! In fact, I had to track down all of the instruments that used to be in this school from other schools.

My students are at the beginning of learning instruments and this is a very important time in their lives.

These stands will remind students that they deserve to have their needs met. Music stands are a need for concert bands. Even though they only hold the music will help them study and get a lot more out of their learning.
